Lilly's Big Day

I was thinking last night how thankful I was for all the love and encouragement Steve and I have received throughout our pregnancy and then during and after Josiah and Lilly’s birth.

While there have been many sad days, we’ve been surprised, grateful, excited, touched and overwhelmed with thoughtfulness from friends, family, and strangers.

Thanks again.

All this to say, we’re excited to share with you that….

Lilly’s big homecoming day

is TOMORROW!

(barring any unforeseen restrictions from the doctors)

When we arrived at the NICU this morning, both babies had their feedings tubes out as they have now graduated to “on-demand” feeding (which is how they’re fed at home). We were so excited for them!!! They look far more comfortable! Josiah ripped his feeding tube out on Sunday (which shocked and hurt him) and nicked up his cheek pretty bad (hence the scab in the pictures today). Poor guy.

As of Sunday evening, Josiah has been off of his caffeine. The caffeine helped him overcome the apnea he had been having (when his brain forgot to breath due to his prematurity), but caffeine doesn’t help improve his coordination (his apnea now is from not being able to coordinate his sucking, swallowing, and breathing). The doctors want him to be apnea-free for 48 hours before they will discharge him. Since he had an episode this afternoon, we know he isn’t coming home for at least 2 days from then.

Lilly’s been doing extremely well! She drank all her bottles like a champ and even had enough energy to stick her neck out to curiously observe everything around her. I love how her little fingers curled around mine when I fed her and how she stares intently at your face when you speak to her. What a precious girl!!! We can’t wait to have her home. Hopefully Josiah is not far behind!

We’ve been running around tonight trying to get several last minute things done (cleaning out our laundry from the pack and play, etc.) and were fortunate to spend time catching up with our friend Jen.

Here are pictures from today! Josiah also passed his car seat test with flying colors!

Wow! you and your babies look so fantastic! We attend ICN and had our twins 10 weeks early, too! I always wished I had gotten to leave with them in my arms in a wheelchair (strange wish, but true!), so I am really thankful you did that! nice "typical"memory and picures to have!!
Congrats! NOw the real work begins! ENJOY!!
