Beth, Steve and Family!: Cat Patrol

What a crazy and amazing couple of days!

We're just now starting to set some sort of consistent routine. I only caved once and called the NICU for questions like, "How long can breast milk be at room temperature after its been warmed up? "What if Josiah's still zonked out for longer than 4 hours?" "Should we keep trying to wake him up, or let him sleep and cry when he's ready to eat?" "It seems like he's spitting up quite a bit, what should we do?"

For whatever reason (perhaps at times our over-attentiveness/borderline paranoia) the babies are doing things that they didn't seem to do in the NICU. Josiah is spitting up during and after every feeding. I'm not sure if you've ever seen a baby spit up, but it's a little sad to see. Their whole body convulses and they give you this look like, "It doesn't taste as good the second time around as it did the first." Lilly is also chocking during her feedings. Sometimes it's because of a latent burp that suddenly bubbles up and other times she may get too much in her mouth. She is quite reluctant to do any burping and takes more than twice as long as Josiah to take a bottle.

Regardless of these anomalies, the babies are doing very well! They are sleeping soundly and during the times they're awake, they're constantly studying our faces and the things around them. When my family and Steve's family came over to visit us (not really, they just wanted to see Lilly and Josiah) we watched video footage recorded from various times in the NICU. It was absolutely crazy to see our little babies strapped, stuck, and wired and realize that these are the same guys who give you quirky little smiles and stare intently at you when you talk to them.

We've had to keep a sharp eye for Jack and Milo's investigation of the twins. Milo just wants to be around everyone and pretty much ignores the babies. He is constantly underfoot as we walk back and forth in the house. Jack is scared to death, but is extremely curious of their sounds, smells, and movements. He's snuck up to them several times only to jump back because they moved. It's pretty funny :)
