Memorable for sure.

Last week was long and difficult. I managed to get everyone in our house sick on top of other stresses which made things that much more exhausting. I am very cautious and stingy about medicine in general, but especially when pregnant. Not being able to dull even the smallest symptoms really drained me. I'm still getting back into the routine of being on my feet and talking all the time at school.

Thankfully, we're on the mend....

Today made up for every one of those days last week.

The school day went exceptionally well and I spent an incredible afternoon and evening with the kids. We were really able to enjoy each other's company.

It's very important to me to have a nice home. I don't mean that things need to be top end or large or state of the art. Rather, I enjoy things being clean, uncluttered, organized, and peaceful. It's very difficult for me to have piles of laundry everywhere or dishes, papers, and piles of things we need to keep from the kids lining our shelves, counters, etc. I hate that my toilets have rings in them and that there's still toothpaste in the sink. I believe in living in a home that reflects who you are and the kind of priorities you have. Just because you have children doesn't mean your house needs to look horendous. When I have to step over and around things constantly, I get very irritable. Seriously, I'm not that great to be around.

All this to say....

I didn't pick up one toy, wipe off one plate or put one thing in the trash until they were in bed. We were that absorbed with our fun. Finding balance is a hard thing to do. With Baby 3 on the way, I know I'll have even less time to change the things that bother me about the clutter of our daily living. It's nice, though to live in the moments of perspective and enjoy the fact that you know you know where your priorities lie.

We received several unexpected gifts in the last several days. An old family friend send me a prayer shaw that she crocheted. The idea behind it is that as someone makes it for the recipient, they are praying for them and sending loving thoughts their way. She explained that the yarn she picked out was called "blue jeans" and how as a young mother she had enjoyed the chance to kick back and wear a good pair of jeans. I was touched by her thoughtfulness, talent, and prayers.

My grandmother sent the kids these little stuffed animals, each with a story behind them. Lilly held onto the bear as we read one of our favorite books, Brown Bear, Brown Bear. So cute :)

A lady from my parent's church made the kids knot blankets. Anyone who knows me pretty well, realizes that I have an obsession with knot blankets. We were so excited to see that they fit perfectly in their new toddler beds and were beautiful flannel patterns.

Thank you everyone for thinking of us and touching us with your generosity & love!

Little Princess

Lilly loves wearing things around her neck, so we finally got some "pretties"! She was sooo excited!

Had a magnificent time at the park with the kids this afternoon. Absolutely perfect. Can you believe how big they are? I see them every day and it's astonishing.

One, two, three, GO!

I love this picture. He was waiting so patiently for her to slide down. Can you see how excited she is and how hard he's trying to be good?

"Say cheese, Josiah!"

It's a big surprise that we go to bed every night.

A few things I know about my kids:

  • 2 feet tall
  • 22 pounds
  • learning a few new words every day (today's word was "robot")
  • learning to go potty like big kids
  • love being outside
  • sleeping in toddler beds
  • eating a little better with utensils
  • could watch Finding Nemo 10 times a day

I'm their mom and they're smarter than I am.
Stronger than I am.
More devious than I am.
Never tired like I am.

I'm putting Josiah to bed first tonight after a nice bath, clean pjs, warm milk and cuddle time. When I go into their bedroom, he starts thrashing around. He's yelling and screaming and I try my best to hold onto him as I climb over the baby gate. Afraid I'll drop him, I lay him in bed. Because it's dark, I accidentally trip over the couch pillow (that's supposed to support him when he rolls out of bed) and fall face down onto the cushion. As I try to rub his back and give him the tag on his blanket, he's literally bucking and dodging me.

What in the world?

He's exhausted. He's sick. And he's acting like I'm trying to torture him.

Now, I'm not asking for advice, but who thinks that parenting is awesome on nights like these???

Tried & True

I'm always in search of recipes that have stood the test of time, present well (especially for company) are kid friendly, and aren't time consuming. I specifically remember a few favorites that my mom would make. Every year on my birthday I'd ask my mom to make Chicken & Rice. In my opinion, it's as comforting and family friendly as a pot roast or chicken noodle soup. There's also another chicken recipe called Company Chicken....chicken covered in cream sauce and bacon, served over buttered noodles. Umm, yea. Delicious.

I don't happen to have the Company Chicken recipe on me (I'll have to ask for that one) but I've included the Chicken and Rice recipe. I'll also include our favorite CHILI that we've perfected over time and LASAGNA recipe for those cool days around the corner.

What are your favorites?

Chicken & Rice Casserole

In a large bowl combine:

2 cups rice
1 can cream celery
2 can cream chicken
1 pkg liption onion soup mix
½ cup milk

Pour mixture in a 9X13 pan

Place 3-4 chicken breasts on top, pressing slightly so they sit in the rice. Rub a little bit of left over cream of chicken soup and sprinkle extra Lipton Onion Soup mix. I usually add a little bit of garlic powder, salt, pepper to the rice mixture or over the chicken.

Cover with foil and bake at 275 for 2 hours.

Chicken Noodle Yummies

Well, it's the third week of school, and I've already managed to get myself and the kids sick. Blah.

All I've been eating for the last several days is Wawa's chicken noodle soup. It's sooo good. Last night, I made my own and was delighted that the kids gobbled it up. I feel bad they they're so miserable.

Between wiping running noses and trying to sanitize whatever I can get my hands on, we played a little dress up.

Lilly wanted to wear her coat, (zippered ALL the way up) a hat, and my necklace. So adorable.

She wanted Josiah to have a hat too.

Healthy wishes to everyone! We have some chicken soup we'd love to share!

Last minute park trip....

I left work later than planned and wasn't able to meet friends of mine at a park. I was bummed because I knew the kids would have fun together and it would be nice to hang out in a non-work setting. As I started home, I realized that there was still time in the day to salvage some sunshine and decided to go anyway.

We. Had. Fun.

Apples & Pictures

Unfortunately, I uploaded these out of order....so just think backwards and it'll all make sense.

We spent the day at Johnson's Farm walking around, playing, riding tractors and picking apples. It was difficult at the end but we had a great morning.

Lilly was a pro. She was so excited to find apples, pick them, and put them in our bags.

Lilly didn't like the tractor noise, but she was brave and made it through!

Josiah & Daddy

He looooved the tractor

Playing on the equipment

He looks so confused here :)

Fascinated by the pumpkins...

In the car ride on the way over, she put her flower on her head and kept yelling "hat"!
