The Big Day...

I think those who know me well could say that I am patient about most things. Inconsiderate driving, negativity, bad breathe, and Christmas presents (giving and receiving) tend to be the areas that I struggle with this trait the most.

Until now...

I have wanted to know from DAY ONE what these babies were.

Last Monday I thought we'd be able to find out at our regular OB appt. Turns out, it was a series of disappointing news: we didn't get an ultra sound or any pictures, what I thought was the babies' kicks were really painful spasms because of my growing belly (actually grateful about knowing that one) and turns out I weigh 3 lbs more than Steve.

All in all, a very, very sad visit for me aside from the fact that their heartbeats were strong and that I was in good shape for 5 months with twins.

Today at 1 pm we had an appointment with Dr. Debbs, our high risk doctor. We were scheduled for the level 2 anatomy ultrasound. Barring any bottoms in the way, we would certainly find out what our babies were.

Once I pulled down my sexy maternity pants around my hips and the ultrasound technician squirted the goo, our babies popped onto screen clear and beautiful.

They had grown so much!

Baby "A" was as active as always. The ultrasound technician took a million pictures over every inch of the baby... we saw all the fingers, toes, arms, legs, kidneys, 4 chambers of the heart, eyes, nose, mouth, diaphragm, bottom, etc.

We wanted to make sure she could identify the sexes of both babies before she told us. If she couldn't, we were determined to wait, painful thought it might be.

Onto examine Baby "B"...poor baby would NOT cooperate at first. It was lying curled towards my back. My heart sank...I guess we'd have to wait after all.

After a little encouragement, Baby "B" FINALLY moved around! Again, we saw all the little parts. She did have to point everything out since most of it was a bit of an enigma for us as first time parents.

A moment later, she turned to us and said, "Do you want to know?" After convincing us that she had a very good idea of both babies, we said "YES!"

She moved the ultrasound wand back to "Baby A" and pointed out all his little boy parts...holy cow!

With a few quick movements, she moved to "Baby B" and showed us that we were also having a little girl.

I put my hands over my face...I was too overwhelmed to say anything! Steve was all smiles! Once she printed over 100 pictures of the ultrasound session, she took them to Dr. Debbs to analyze. We waited in that little room for what seemed like forever. My stomach was really cold from lying there (for over an hour!) with all that goo on me. Steve snapped a couple shots of us being excited after we heard the news and in came Dr. Debbs.

He said there were a couple things he wanted to look at again. We glanced at each other a bit concerned. Thankfully, he just double checks everything the technician had already done and confirmed the sexes of both babies.

After telling me to "just keep doing what you're doing", we were sent off with a clean bill of health for mommy and both babies. They had plenty of amneotic fluid around them, placentas were healthy, weight was 30 ounces each and development was right on par with how old they were.

Good day to say the very least.

Steve and I couldn't be more excited or more thankful. It's so much fun to be able to refer to them as baby boy and baby girl.

I feel so grateful to have had such an enjoyable pregnancy. Other than having a lot of back pain due to stretching (manageable with physical therapy), tiredness (solved easily with a short nap) and pains in my belly from stretching (worth it because I know they're growing strong) this has been such an amazing experience. Can't wait until Steve can feel them move around. He's going to be such a good daddy.

Thanks to all for your love and support....
