Busy Mind
Josiah has technically been in bed since a little after 9, but he's been up every once in a while for the last hour. He's not quite procrastinating like you may think.
Every time he gets up, he quietly hangs out by the door until I come over and kneel next to him. The first several times, he had a lot that he was thinking about...things he did today, problems that he can't figure out, conversations that he's still considering (i.e. he told Steve that he would like to go on a train trip where they can sleep on the train. He told me that sometimes he's thirsty in the middle of the night and he was wondering if I'd have a drink packed for him.) The last time, I took him to our room and he asked if I had a good bedtime song I could sing to him. "I'm having a hard time going to sleep tonight. I feel kinda sweaty with my blankets." It was hard not to smile. We sang a song, turned up air together and I told him that even though I like our talks together it was very late and if he got up again I'd have to take away his trains. He said, "Ok, but can I have a drink of chocolate milk first?"
It's been quiet not for 12 minutes so I hope his restless little mind has calmed (with the help of chocolate milk, of course).
I've had a such a great time with the kids these last three weeks. They're hysterical, stubborn, temperamental, intelligent, creative, independent, affectionate, thoughtful and brave.
I'm so proud of how well the twins are doing in gymnastics. It was pretty difficult for Josiah to go along with the directions and chaos. He seemed skeptical of everything for a few classes, but now he is confident and excited for class. I'm continually amazed at his strength and endurance. Lilly was a natural from the beginning- not just the flips and such but she seems to thrive on the interaction with "friends", the multistep directions and each challenge.
Noah is a completely different person this summer. He's amazing!!! Admittedly, there's a little bit of a temper and possessive issue going on, but I'm REALLY hoping we're through the worst of it. Each night he goes around and gives "ni-ni" hugs and kisses to the twins and us. He even does his own "chores"; putting trash into the trash can, dirty laundry into the hamper and he's become so much better at the signs for "more", "finished", "help", "eat", etc.
Basically, they're awesome but I'm exhausted. Hahaha! :)
We're looking forward to our FIRST family camping week in a few weeks!

It’s July!
Bethany’s last day of school was two Fridays ago (June 21st). I’ve been on a normal work schedule since and have missed my time with the kids each morning! Besides the normal work of taking care of them all day, Bethany’s been extra busy with them – they’ve gone to several different play places/gyms, started doing a gymnastics class, have gone to story time, several parks, and swimming. All of that is in spite of the week of thunderstorms!
We signed papers on Tuesday night to put our condo up for sale. It was exciting to see it show up on Zillow on Thursday morning. I’d include a picture of the lockbox on our door but it wasn’t there when we left yesterday morning (after the first frenzied house-cleaning for potential buyers of what I’m sure will be too many!)…
We spent yesterday with Bethany’s family at Aunt Kathy and Uncle Bill’s for their 2nd annual July 4th party. Despite the heat, we were outside for quite a bit (not counting our group to the pool) and the kids were Exhausted (yes, with a capital “E”!).
Afterwards, we drove back to Beth’s parents house and picked up some small fireworks (from Walmart, nothing crazy!). Every year (this year included), we’ve wanted to do sparklers with the kids but we haven’t gotten to it. Lilly had a bad experience with fireworks last summer (she doesn’t like the loud noise) and since has been anti-fireworks. It took some effort but she was willing to sit and watch the little ones we’d bought until one unfortunately started making the loud crackling sound as it sparkled. She (understandably) freaked out and wanted to watch the rest from inside! (Later, she made a cautious journey back outside and made an admirable effort to enjoy them!)
