Giving Thanks, Netti Pot, Teething, Nap Times and All That
This week the kids have been very sick.
I can't remember the last time they've slept (and not slept) so much. The nights have been difficult. During the day, they're fighting a fever, lethargic, uninterested in food, cutting teeth and just want to nap and be held. The lack of sleep this week is really starting to wear us down. Last night, Steve and I came down with our own wicked version of their cold. It's sad that it's over Thanksgiving break, but as Steve pointed out, we'd want to be right where we are; with them as much as possible.
It's funny listening to them be so instant about their feelings on various treatments (nebulizer, Vicks, medicine, etc.). For being so little, they're certainly pretty opinionated. :) Steve and I tried the Neti Pot, an interesting contraption designed to eliminate congestion. The idea is pretty strange, and we couldn't help but laugh at each other the whole time, but it really worked. If you've never heard of it, try looking here.
Since the kids were pretty miserable, we weren't sure what to do about Thanksgiving. We wanted to go, but weren't sure how they'd hold up. All things considered they did very well thanks to an accommodating family. We had a great meal and were genuinely able to enjoy the time with everyone. The kids spent the time nibbling from everyone's plate, exploring drawers and cabinets and enjoying stolen fingerfuls of Cool Whip whenever possible.
Last night was really long. Again.
Josiah was up every hour until Steve slept with him in the living room. Even though it was my night to sleep, I couldn't because I felt SO miserable. We had planned to spend the day at my parents for Thanksgiving #2, but asked them to come to us instead. They were gracious enough to pack up everything and hang out with us here. I was so glad they did. Lilly woke up this morning and promptly fell back asleep in the living room before I could change her diaper. Josiah took a nap around 10, woke up at 11 and curled up on Steve -passed out-for another 2 hours. They both took another 2 1/2 hour nap later that afternoon while we watched Elf and laid around on the floor. After the kids woke up, everyone did a little shopping. It was a beautiful evening and relaxing day. We enjoyed it immensely.
I have a few pictures, but my phone's on the other side of the room and let's face it, for a pregnant women, it's far away.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.
