Friday was the worst and best day for information from the condo association and contractors. The day started out with asking them to return my key after the association said I was forbidden to be in the house when over 15 different inspectors walked through. Later that morning, I finally got some good clarification and details as to what was going on.
Friday, the local fire inspector and many fire inspector contractors were out to determine the cause of the fire. The management office had incorrectly told us they would be going through our place – they were only working in the center section of the building. Those residents are still not allowed to be in their homes because there’s still plenty of work needed to make them safe.
While I was there Friday morning, I got to talk to the project manager from the restoration company (working for the association and their insurance company). We specifically talked about what repairs would need to be done in our place and how they were going to handle repairing the damaged fire wall between us and our neighbors.
It has now been two weeks since the fire. The insurance company has us at the hotel for another week (until Monday the 14th). They’ve indicated they’ll extend us another week if needed (our concern is that it would be a hassle if they move us out of the hotel and into an apartment).
The best possible sequence of events:
Monday – Personal Property rep from the adjuster’s office comes down to look through the house. Repair company starts repairs in our unit.
Tuesday – Repair company finishes repairs.
Wednesday – Cleaning company can clean the furniture, carpet, etc
Thursday – Move back in.
That’s very unlikely – I think Wednesday of next week is a more realistic goal. We’ll see what happens.
