Some days I feel like I'm sleep walking. Whether I get 7 hours of sleep or 3, it seems I can't get myself jump-started. Yesterday was one of those days. It did, however rain all day and I loved it.
Despite the mild amount of humidity, I kept the windows open all day. I'm not sure what it is about listening to rain, but it's mesmerizing. I am left with this same feeling when watching a fire burn or listening to the ocean.
We have yet to make an offer on the house. It's not that we don't want to, but we're waiting for ONE LAST piece of the puzzle to fall into place before we can take that step. Geez, this process is complicated. I've had to consciously detach myself from the emotional aspects of the "do we buy, should we buy, yes let's buy" the house. I've not been completely successful, but I try.
The babies are amazing. I can't believe how social they are. I LOVE it! They make all sorts of sounds trying to mimic you and they rarely stop smiling. I've fallen in love with them all over again. Today marks the 3 month anniversary of their homecoming. We did it, Steve!!!! We've made it 3 months! There were some LOOOOONG days and nights mixed in there. And to be honest, there still are.....but nothing like those first two months.
I had the best time with Lilly last night. I was (unsuccessfully) trying to put her to sleep, hoping she wouldn't notice she was still hungry. She hadn't finished her bottle, but it was so late and I was so tired, I kept my fingers crossed that she was just as tired too. I sat in their room, holding her swaddled little body rocking back and forth. I started singing her all the songs that I knew (making up a few words here and there) when she started the most remarkable thing. She focused her big brown eyes on my face and smiled. She stayed this way for the entire time I sang to her...roughly 40 minutes. The spell didn't break until she let out a huge fart and laughed hysterically at herself.
I found this quote and thought it appropriately reflected what's been on my mind this last week after a conversation with a few friends. I am not at all surprised by the amount of self-scrutiny their birth has caused and am striving to live in such a way that will not leave me embarrassed once my children start to imitate me.
