Baby steps

As is common after a vaccination, Lilly came down with a mild fever this morning. Thankfully it was nothing a dose of Tylenol couldn't fix. She was fussy and just wanted to snuggle. We were happy to accommodate her :)

Feverish little girl

We offered Josiah and Lilly their first ever "real" food. (I don't count the rice cereal as real. Have you ever tasted that stuff? It's gross.)

Neither one of them knew what think of the peas, but in typical Josiah-fashion, he ate all that was offered to him. We think he liked it.

Lilly was a little less interested, but she kept making funny faces as she rolled it around in her mouth. Silly girl....

"What? I'm awake! Don't take it away!"

I was excited to celebrate baby LaValva's anticipated arrival at my friend Susan's shower. Just a matter of weeks before we meet him or her!!!

After a particularly somber conversation with a friend today, I was reminded of the courage it takes to love. It's amazing how vulnerable we make ourselves to those we call friends and loved ones. It's very difficult to lose those we love whether by death, separation, or dispute. Without realizing it, our lives become entangled in each others. This conversation made me think of one of my favorite quotes:

“I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches. If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise, since everyone suffers. To suffering must be added mourning, understanding, patience, love, openness and the willingness to remain vulnerable.”
- Anne Morrow Lindbergh (1906-2001)
