Preparing for the Munchkins

This morning we went to our first pre-natal class; a 6:40 alarm is way to early on a Sunday morning! It was for the maternity tour of Virtua Voorhees where we'll be having the twins. We thought it might be a virtual tour since the swine flu scare. Although it wasn't, it was the first walk-through tour in several months since the epidemic.

We were one of 10 couples for the 8:30 am session (the 10:00 am session was full). Overall, we thought the session was only mildly helpful. We were able to see a labor and delivery room, c-section recovery room, and nursery. There wasn't a mother/baby room available, which was a shame because we would've really liked to have seen it.

The volunteer who walked us around was very nice, but didn't have any information that we hadn't read on the Virtua website such as c-section procedure. Like I said, we did see the c-section recovery room, but it was really unimpressive. It was one big room with sad looking beds and separated by thin curtains. Thankfully, I'll only be there 1-2 hours after the surgery, but I was definitely disappointed.

If and only if we have a private room, Steve will be able to have 24 hour access to myself and the babies. If we have to share a room, then he'll have to respect visitation hours. AND, if we have the babies after visiting hours as well as a shared room, then he'll have to leave right after I spend the time in the recovery room. They rotate people in for private rooms when they can.

On another note, we washed and boiled all the baby bottles and parts. We also boiled all the stuff for the breast pump. Steve and I were trying to figure out how to hook it up and make it work. It was pretty hilarious and mildly humiliating that this is what I'll be doing 8-12 times a day at 10 minute intervals. It even makes this stupid churning sound. Geez....

You know, they never tell you about these kinds of things when you dream about babies. :)
