Satur-daze

Now that we own an actual house with property, cleaning and lawn work have taken on a whole different meaning. I have a severe case of lawn envy whenever I drive by a house and the grass and shrubs are lush and manicured. Although it will take years before things look the way we want, we've only been here for three weeks and already there's progress.

My dad planted 11 trees for us on Friday. Although I'd appreciate if they grew overnight, I know that the years will pass and as they grow, so will our family. It'll be comforting to watch.

Steve recently returned from a week in California for a work conference. While I'm very glad that he learned a lot and had a great experience, I'm relieved to have him home. Despite the support and hard work of both our moms to help keep things running, it's a lot easier to tackle outside tasks when he's around.

Today we raked, re-seeded and fertilized the front right yard. I know this sounds trivial and I realize that I'm complaining a bit (wah!) but it took ALL day! There is so much hay and rocks to take out and even though the grass is growing in, there's TONS of weeds to remove.

We also got our humongous pine tree trimmed of dead branches and the large decaying stump from the corner property sawed down. You'll have to ask Steve about this story, though. It's quite the tale.

Steve, the kids and I worked tirelessly all morning and early afternoon because it was predicted to thunderstorm throughout the late afternoon and evening. It was a perfect time to spread another layer of seed and fertilizer, but the clock was ticking. Patience was a little short and tempers were a little high as we managed the yard work and the kids. They did try to be helpful, but that didn't stop them from making a mess of the garage or the house, yelling at each other and being quite tired in general.

In other sad news, I dropped my iPhone (again) and cracked the screen. I've never been so sad to spend money in my LIFE. The hardwood floors and real tile here are going to be the death of my phone.

Playing in the rain

We ended the day with showers and Famous Dave's take-out for Mother's Day. The kids passed out right away at bedtime and Steve and I are not far behind!
