On Sunday, Lilly, Josiah and I left home (at 1:30, right on schedule!) for the 5 hour drive down to Massanutten. We got down to the resort by about 7:30 (after some dinner, bathroom, and gas stops), checked in and got settled into the house. The kids helped unload everything from the car and get it to its proper place.
Unloading went so much better than last year! Last year, it was much colder and we arrived around midnight. I had to get the kids in and to bed, then (after waiting long enough to be sure they wouldn’t wake up and be disoriented) run down the hall, down the stairs, and down to the end of the parking lot to get stuff unloaded from the car (making that trip several times). This year, I backed the car into the garage, closed the garage door, and we all brought bags into the house.
The kids slept well and we woke up rested in the morning. I made pancakes for breakfast while the kids watched a show. It was probably the end of the day Monday before I had things put away and setup the way we wanted them.
You’ll notice some pictures below (like the next one) that were taken by the kids. Josiah is very interested in the camera, Lilly is a little interested. Their perspective is certainly unique…
Breakfast at the kitchen island/counter
At times, it was more TV than breakfast!
One of the kids took this picture of the window frame but it gives a quick glimpse of outside…
Josiah took this picture of Lilly (and Cinderella)

After breakfast, we washed the clothes we had travelled in (and our PJs and towels) before heading out to do our grocery shopping. Josiah was doing great with the laundry and I stepped away to take a picture of him being so helpful. After taking this picture, he stood up and saw me:
“Dad, stop taking pictures of my bottom – that’s gross, no one wants to see that!”
After grocery shopping, we took a quick group picture (thanks to the self timer – the original way to take a “selfie”)
Since the kids endured a long trip to Super Walmart for groceries and other supplies, we opted to go swimming at the pool. We were the only people there! After a while, I took off their life jackets and they kept jumping in (they are able to stand in the 3’ water by themselves now).
As you’d expect, the kids slept like rocks that night!
