What a great Christmas break we are having so far. I'm torn between being sad that it's halfway through and wanting the weekend to hurry closer so we can celebrate with my family.
The weekend was filled with baking cookies (thank you, Pillsbury), tossing caramel corn, dusting our long forgotten shelves and picture frames errands and lots of playing.
It was Christmas Eve before I knew it. All of our presents were wrapped, Santa had visited our house (though the kid's reactions were varied and not quite how I'd imagined them to be) and the three amigos were tucked into bed.
Unfortunately, between Lilly's interrupted sleep and my own excitement, I didn't get more than a few hours of rest! (I know I wasn't the only one up all night, Grannie B!)
With a 9am arrival time at the grandparent's house, Steve and I were up and dressed before the kids. Crazy, I know. Noah was up first, his happy little smile and snuggly self was a perfect beginning to the day. Lilly wasn't far behind. First thing she said as she looked at me bleary-eyed was, "Santa came to my house?" I was so excited to tell her that he did and that she could peek in the living room.
From there the fun just snowballed.
We spent an hour having our own little Christmas. IT WAS SO FUN! I wish we could have played longer and lingered a little more. The kids were super cute in their blatant excitement. Steve gave me a Kindle cover for my new paper-white Kindle, a down comforter and duvet set. YAY! We are finally on our way to having a grown-up bed! I love that he has excellent taste!
The kids stayed in their special PJs from Santa and once we were bundled, it was time to head out the door. Josiah was devastated to leave his trash truck, the ONLY thing he wanted from Santa, but after a while he recovered enough to be completely immersed in the new train set he received.
It was overwhelming unwrapping and going through all the awesome presents the kids received, but it was fun to go through thextm again once we got home. I spent a portion of today weeding through their old toys, keeping only the most beloved ones and adding our new treasures.
Steve and I were lucky to receive several great presents including a Vera Bradley weekender bag and a camp kitchen- totally stoked for our next camping trip!
Finished off the day strong with a chili bar at our house (in which I forgot to make the pasta and fries) and serious games of Just Dance for Wii. It felt good to move after all that food!
We spent today cleaning up our chaos, playing all of our wonderful toys and making up games. While the twins napped, Noah and I braved the cold and wet to find some post-Christmas deals at Old Navy. I love the new long wrap-around sweater I got!
The kids have been in bed for an hour and a half now and all I can think about is taking a massive amount of Benedryl and climbing into my cozy, down-filled bed.
Merry Christmas, all.
