My Morning

At 6:45 my eyes flew open.

Someone had climbed (more like fallen) out of their crib and was crying. Well, I guess it's up n' adam.

I crept into their dark room to see Josiah laying on the floor. I picked him up and snuggled with him in the chair. Not three seconds later Lilly gracefully climbed out of her crib and onto my lab. Both kids snuggled with me for quite some time. Bliss.

When they started getting wiggly, I set them down and they immediately started pulling apart their room. We played in there for a bit and then headed out into the living room.

Sometime during the night, one of our cats had puked all throughout the hallway and living room.

Gross.

I put on a Sesame Street to distract the kids while I cleaned up what I could. Unfortunately, I had to drag out the carpet cleaner to really get everything back to normal. I'm sure our downstairs neighbors hated us.

As I returned from rinsing out the carpet cleaner and putting it away, I noticed that there was something on Josiah's neck. It was blood! In an effort to relieve some of the pressure in his ears from teething, Josiah had scratched at his ear so bad, it was bleeding profusely.

I ran to get a wet washcloth to clean him up enough to assess the damage properly. Thankfully the cut was small, just deep. He was very good about it all and kept saying "uh oh, mom" when I pressed against his ear to stop the bleeding. I was a little concerned that it took awhile to stop, but once it did it immediately looked better. I gave him some Tylenol to help with his teething and ear discomfort which seemed to help.

I went into the kitchen to start making breakfast (around 7:45) only to realize that in our haste to clean out the car and start packing for our Midwest trip, everything had ended up on the kitchen counters (one of the only safe places form Josiah). We had a massive storm last night with driving winds and hail, so Steve and I were more concerned with getting things in the house before it was too bad outside more than organizing it. Bummer.

It took me a half hour to clean the kitchen, load the dishwasher and sort the food for the trip before I could even start pulling things out for the kids' breakfast. Luckily, I made cinnamon banana pancakes the day before and had leftovers. I hustled the kids to the table only to realize the highchairs were still in the car. Yesterday we had dinner with Steve's family (and grandparents from out of town) but had forgotten to bring them up to the house.

The kids sat on the floor to eat and did well except for the occasional handful of mushy pancake that flew across the room. At this point, I was like whatever.

At 8:45, I started to get things ready for their morning nap. For a while we had eliminated these naps since they had been sleeping until 9 ish but alas their early rising has forced us back into this schedule. It's not a bad thing, it's just a pain because it breaks up the morning so much. I also hate getting up so early with them because they're crankier.

Finally the house is quiet. I feel so tired, but there's packing, organizing, and more packing for our big trip. We're not looking forward to the drive, but it'll be nice to see Steve's family.

Hope your mornings been FAR more uneventful than mine!
