Bronchiolitis in the House

Pictures from the last couple of days....

After we got back from camping, Steve and I came down with bad colds. It was really a nuisance given our crazy schedules and everything, however, it wasn't until first Jay than Lilly came down with a cold, that we really started to discover what a sick household looked like. They would do well for a day or so which would be followed by two or three rough days. This pattern has continued for the last two weeks. A couple days ago, Lilly really started coughing like crazy. It's not only interrupting her sleep, but it's also causing her to vomit. We took both of them to the doctor's office today and it turns out they both have bronchiolitis.

Our pediatrician seemed very knowledgeable and was proactive with their care. There are some unique concerns since they were premies and were administered breathing treatments in the NICU. There's also quite a bit of wheezing in their chests, which is concerning. Some of the traditional treatments for this sort of thing is a nebulizer which you can imagine the kids just LOVED getting (barely concealed sarcasm here) along with antibiotics. They both actually did pretty well considering we had to hold a "smoking" mask to their face three times a day at 10 minute intervals.

Here was our first attempt at administering treatments today.

We're all really exhausted and worn out.

The babies need rest so badly, but their congestion, coughs and over-tired state keep them from sleeping well which in turn makes it difficult for Steve and I. Hopefully, we see positive results from the treatments tomorrow......

I told Josiah that it was like the oxygen mask that fighter pilots wear, I think that made him feel less dorky.

They are getting albuterol through the nebulizer - it brings back memories of the inhaler and chamber/mask we used to give Milo his albuterol...

Lilly does well with it all - she's not excited, but with Sesame Street, she's sufficiently patient.
