We’ll see!
This morning (bright and early at 4:30am) the kids and I took Beth to the airport. She’s going away for a week to visit with her friend Ashley who is getting married this fall. I’m also on vacation for the week, but my schedule looks markedly different than hers!
The kids and I got home at 5:30am this morning – we did breakfast and then I tucked them back in bed by 6:30 (when Beth texted me to let me know they were on the plane and getting ready to leave Philly). I was overjoyed when I woke up at 9:30 and the kids were still asleep! Those 3 hours, combined with my 5 from earlier gave me a full (albeit interrupted) night’s rest!
The morning schedule was scattered since they ate so early – lunch happened around around 11 with some cat-napping throughout the morning. We snuck out to run some errands around 2pm – Beth’s car has a headlight that needs replacing. We managed to escape a ticket on our trip up to Allentown on Tuesday and I was thankful to have not gotten a ticket this morning on our trip to and from the airport!
In the afternoon, we got a Skype call from Beth. Lilly was hilarious – she recognized Beth on the TV right away (it’s hard to not recognize someone when their face is on a 57” screen) and was all smiles to see her mom. We talked for a while and Lilly stared at Beth the entire time. Josiah was down for a much-needed nap and I wasn’t about to wake him up!
Dinner was uneventful – I had hoped for a nap but just as I got Josiah settled down for a nap, Lilly was waking up from hers. I didn’t mind it as much as I thought I would – it was fun to get to play with each of them for a while without worrying about the other.
The night wrapped up (for them anyway) with a bath for Lilly (who was too sad last night to get one). They’ve both had a long day and when I laid them down in their cribs, they both had such heavy eyes that they were asleep minutes later.
Ahead of me, I now have the post-tornado “picking up” to take care of. Burp cloths, blankets, pacifiers, and bottles are scattered around the house and the laundry generated by the kids is just unimaginable. I’m glad to have only had a few work-related interruptions today (and only a little bit of work-work to do before going to bed). Hopefully the next few days will be better (or at least no worse!).
When we pick Beth up next Tuesday night, I am convinced I’ll have a new-found appreciation for her days at home with the kids. I also expect to have a new-found appreciation for the kids and some fun memories of our stay-at-home vacation together (I refuse to use the term “staycation”).
Congratulations to our friends Ryan and Susan on the birth of their son Hudson on Monday and their first night at home as a family.

Hi ya Steve!!!
What a day you have had. You are just like the guy from "Daddy Day Care"---hahaha! Seriously, you are doing a terrific job. It is exhausting...but those little angels faces looking so trustingly up at you make it all worthwhile. :) I am sure your Mom has made herself available to help you, but if you need anything else---please call us!
Love you sweetie! aka-Mimi & Pop-pop
