"It is white." - George W. Bush, when asked what the White house was like by a student in East London

Steve and I have reminded each other several times that we should update our blog, but neither of us have remembered to actually do it.

I'm sitting here, in a classroom at the middle school (which currently has its air conditioner broken in 90 degree weather) listening as the students exchange yearbooks and talk about this last year's memories. It's the last week of school, I can't help but think that they looked so young at the beginning of the year and now...they've grown up. (Well, at least most of them!)

With the upcoming elections, I've had several conversations with the kids about their thoughts on our current president and on the running candidates.

I've listened to their apathy or resolute opinions and couldn't help but feel that although I desperately wish they were more educated on politics (or the current state of our relationships with other countries, or the oil crisis, or the stock market, or the massive amount of housing foreclosures, or the economy, or social security, or the ongoing war with Iraq) that at their age, it didn't really matter to me. Can I blame them?

"It is white."

Yes, I am a little worried.

Even at this age, (newly 23) I am far less educated than I think I should be about our political candidates or any of the above issues. What can be done? Will a president solve or perhaps reduce the consequences of these issues anytime soon?

If you've ever watched the movie Idiocracy (shout out to both Steves) I think that there is more truth in it that I would like to admit.

Change of topic-

I was saving this post for Steve, but since it's been a while, I'll tell you about the new addition to our house. No, don't freak out yet, we're not pregnant! :)

We recently purchaced a Roomba from Kohls that was on sale. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a robotic vacuum/sweeper: http://store.irobot.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2501652&cp=2174940

It's amazing! It's especially useful since we have the kittens. They track stuff all around the house and leave hair everywhere. All we need to do is turn on the roomba, set up the lighthouses (little things that you set on the ground and project an invisable laser to block the roomba) if we need to.

We usually set up a lighthouse in front of the kitchen if we don't want it to go in there or something. When it's full or done, it stops. You can either hit the "dock" button and it will go to it's charging station, or pick it up and dump out the junk into the trash.

Truely an amazing machine. It doesn't even get stuck on their little toys on the floor.

In the beginning the cats were scared, but they've now learned to ignore it or chase after the toys we put on top of it. Certainly keeps us entertained!

We'll be taking the train to Canada in a couple of weeks for our one-year anniversary. Stay posted!
