Perhaps We're Greek

I miss my grand pop.

All the silly memories (his love of all things overly burnt, garden-fresh tomato and cheese sandwiches in the summer, extensive knowledge of plants and flowers, late night card games around the kitchen table, devotionals in his recliner, that certain smell of soil and lawnmower in the garage......) come to my mind many times a day.

I didn't know there was a void he filled until he was gone. It makes me sad.

Like many families, ours celebrates and grieves around the kitchen. We spent many hours over the last couple days eating and snacking on food that was lovingly prepared for us. When I came home from work today, all I wanted to do was make chicken noodle soup. I know it's strange, but just the simple act of preparing something for my family was familiar and comforting.

Thanks to those who have expressed their condolances through voicemail, email, cards, etc. It means so much.
