Beth and I are at "Jet Rock" in the Philadelphia International Airport waiting for our 5:45 flight (which is now delayed to at least 7:05) to Tampa, FL. We were supposed to get to Tampa by 8:30 - now it looks more like a 10pm arrival. Booo.
Last night, as we were getting things at the house ready for a week without us, we tried trimming the cats nails. We had done this once before with great success, so we weren't expecting any trouble. We started with Mild Milo, figuring he'd be cooperative. That didn't work out so well.
You would have thought Beth was cutting off his paw, not his claws, by his complaining and attempted escape. We got one claw done, went for the second one, but he reacted even worse. On the off chance we were doing something wrong and causing him pain (as opposed to him just not enjoying it), we decided to give up and take him to PetSmart's grooming place in the morning.
Next up - Jack. Yeah, right. We quickly gave up on this (not before Jack's claws ripped a nice size hole in the jeans I was wearing). It cost us $16 to get both of their claws done by the people at PetSmart. That way, Jack and Milo hate them, not us! We'll probably try again next time (having gleaned some tips from the PetSmart groomers) and see what happens.
We were sad to abandon them for a week (we get back next Tuesday morning). I don't know if Beth's written about the automatic food dispenser and water filter, but they're cool enough to justify a second explanation if she has. The food dispenser scoops out food at specific times for them. That way they don't need to bother us early in the morning when they're hungry. At 6:30am, they hear the sound of the dispenser and race into the bathroom for their breakfast. It's nice because it means if we're not around, they don't need to be hungry (and/or aggravated with us) until we get back.
My mom is going to watch them while we're away. I'm sure they'll get plenty of attention and be well looked after.
I honestly expected that by the time I finished writing this, our flight would have been further delayed - much to my surprise, it hasn't!
