Sun, shore and shivers

Yesterday my parents and Emily (along with her new boyfriend from ENC) met us at our house for a weekend trip to Long Beach Island. You may be asking yourself why we would choose to spend a weekend at the beach in November. Well, I was a little unsure of it myself, but my mom loves the shore and it was an opportunity to step away and relax.

It was beautiful there! The water was crystal clear and the sky was bright and blue. Although it was soooo cold, we all took a long walk along the beach and through the neighborhoods. It was fun to spook the seagulls and dream of living in big houses where we could lay in the sun all day.

About 5 years ago, my dad found a recipe on consumer reports for salsa. Soon after he lost it. It was a seriously sad moment. A few months ago, after much internet research, he found it. In a similar situation, a few years ago I made great chili. I hadn't made it since. It's a little complicated and takes a lot of ingredients. This weekend we spent some quality time in the kitchen and made both the salsa and the chili. Steve accidentally rubbed some jalapeƱo juice on his lip as he was cutting them up for the salsa. He said that it burned soooo bad! It was a little swollen and chapped after that, but there was nothing he could do except wait it off. (If you want either recipe, let me know, I can publish it.)

We stayed up late with Emily and her boyfriend playing Phase 10, a great game if you actually get dealt great cards. I lost, and lost, and lost, but finally managed some luck and came out alright in the end.

It depends on who you actually hear the story from, but regardless, Steve's bag with everything he packed in it was left at home. We had to improvise and wash all his clothes right before we went to bed (around 3am). For some reason, it got so hot in our room and we both woke up around 6am...just in time to watch the sun rise. It was beautiful over the ocean. What a gorgeous way to start the day.
